About Us
The Society for Human Resource Management of Greater Kansas City, Inc. (SHRM-KC) is a professional association dedicated to the advancement and support of the human resource profession. An affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), SHRM-KC has long been recognized as one of the largest and oldest chapters of the Society for Human Resource Management. SHRM-KC began in 1953 as the Personnel Management Association (PMA). In 1954, PMA was chartered with ASPA (American Society of Personnel Administration) now known as SHRM. PMA was the fifth chapter chartered in the United States.
SHRM-KC continues to grow with over 725 active members within the Greater Kansas City area. Members enjoy benefits such as educational programs featuring top local and national speakers; seminars; webinars; and online membership roster just to name a few.
SHRM-KC is the sponsor of the Paragon Award, a prestiguous award recognizing excellence in human resource practices. This award, based on criteria from the Malcolm Balridge and Missouri Quality awards, is awarded to organizations that demonstrate excellence.
SHRM-KC also proudly publishes the Salary Survey. This survey, published for over 30 years, is the only survey of its kind to provide data on the Greater Kansas City metro area.
SHRM-KC supports and promotes certification of human resource professionals. Certification preparation classes for SPHR (Senior Professional Human Resources) and PHR (Professional Human Resources) are held twice per year.
