The Society for Human Resource Management of Greater Kansas City, Inc. (SHRM-KC) is a professional association dedicated to the advancement and support of the human resource profession. An affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), SHRM-KC has long been recognized as one of the largest and oldest chapters of the Society for Human Resource Management. SHRM-KC began in 1953 as the Personnel Management Association (PMA). In 1954, PMA was chartered with ASPA (American Society of Personnel Administration) now known as SHRM. PMA was the fifth chapter chartered in the United States.

Join a Committee
Membership - This committee focuses on the recruitment of new members, retention of current members, and the planning of networking opportunities. Each month, the committee hosts a "New Member Orientation" prior to each lunche (11:00 - 11:20 am) at the Grand Street Cafe. The committee meets on a regular basis. College Relations - This committee works with our local SHRM-KC student chapters and student members to prepare them for a future career in the human resources. Roundtables with experienced human resource professionals are held twice per year. Discounted dues are also avallable for student members. SHRM Foundation - This committee plans fundraising events for the SHRM Foundation and also activities in the local community where SHRM-KC members can make an impact! The SHRM Foundation is committed to elevating and empowering HR as a social force through its innovative solutions to workplace inclusion challenges, programming designed to inspire and empower the next generation of HR leaders, and awarding scholarships and professional development grants to educate and develop students and HR professionals. Emerging Professionals - Our Emerging Professionals group supports professionals new to the human resources field with networking opportunities and a mentoring program. Please contact Kristie Lyons for more information.
Social Media & Communications - This committee works to coordinate the marketing of our various programs through social media outlets, and electronic communications. The group will engage with our membership using tools such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. For more information or to become involved, contact Tom Bachmann.
Diversity & Inclusion – This committee will assist in the development of programming related to Diversity & Inclusion topics, as well as provide general support to our membership in these areas of focus. Workforce Readiness - This committee works within the community, and with employers, to provide worker training and development opportunities to maintain a skilled workforce. The committee is also focused on removing barriers that may prevent qualified workers from being fully considered for jobs.
