Nazdar embarked on a succession planning process starting in 2016. During this program, Anissa Elsey, Chief Human Resources Officer, will share a Case Study of the steps Nazdar took to develop and implement the process that they are using today.
Anissa will walk you through the 6-Step Process of Succession Planning and Leadership Development. Along the way, you will learn how to develop a succession strategy for critical positions, the importance of defining requirements for critical positions, and how to assess current bench strength (performance and potential) using a 9-Box Grid. Once the high potential employees (HIPOs) are determined, the leadership development can begin.
Anissa will share highlights of the leadership development program that has been developed and is currently underway within Nazdar. It consists of three cohorts, to acknowledge that not all HIPOs are at the same starting point in their development. She will share the process of how they defined the leadership competencies on which all training is based, and how they determined which HIPOs belong in each leadership development cohort.
Additional topics that will be covered include communication, calibration, and ongoing sustainability.
About Anissa Elsey...Anissa is currently the VP, Chief Human Resources Officer for Thrall Enterprises, Inc. (TEI) where she is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the human resources functions of TEI Corporate and the TEI operating company, including Nazdar.
Anissa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia (1991) and a Master of Arts degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the University of Tulsa-Oklahoma (1993). She earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification (SPHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) in 2005 and the Senior Certified Professional Certification (SHRM-SCP) from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in 2015. She has over 20 years of diverse experience in the Human Resources field.
Anissa enjoys giving back to the community. She currently serves on the UMKC HR Advisory Board and holds the position of Immediate Past Chairperson. She is a past board member and President of The Society for Human Resource Management of Greater Kansas City, Inc. (SHRM-KC) and was selected as SHRM-KC’s 2007 Contributor of the Year award. She also served as the 2010 Co-Chair Person for the Missouri State HR Conference. Anissa is also a former board member for the HR Forum Group. She is a Patient Ambassador for the Shriners Hospital for Children.
Anissa’s personal passion is to make a difference in the addiction recovery space. She and her husband, Rob co-founded a non-profit organization called In the Name of Grace. “GRACE” is an acronym that stands for Giving Recovering Addicts a Chance to Evolve. GRACE partners with Oxford House, Inc (OHI) and has a mission to raise money to fund outreach operations for the Oxford HousesTM in the Kansas City metro area in Missouri. The outreach operations provide stability and structure for Oxford Houses and forms strategic partnerships with private investors to open new Oxford HousesTM in good neighborhoods.
As a result of being the top ranked woman in her organization along with her extensive list of community involvement, Anissa was named one of the 25 Women Who Mean Business in 2014 by the Kansas City Business Journal.
