Increasing Legalization of Marijuana and Opiod Abuse in the Workplace Leads to
Increasing Legal Issues for Employers

This extended two-hour program, presented by Judy Yi and Henry Thomas of Polsinelli, PC will provide an in-depth look at the impact of the legalization of medical marijuana on employment policies and procedures.  At the same time that marijuana is being legalized, opioid use and abuse has risen across the United States.  We will also look at policy and procedure options to combat opioid use in the workplace.  Topics will include:

  • How the legalization of medical marijuana impacts ADA reasonable accommodation obligations.
  • Review drug testing best practices and options.
  • Review the interaction between the legalization of marijuana and the Drug Free Workplace Act.
  • Go through practical substance abuse scenarios.

This program has been pre-approved for 2.0 hours of PHR/SPHR recertification credit through the HR Certification Institute (www.hrci.org) and SHRM CP/SCP professional development credit through SHRM (www.shrm.org).
