On its own, accepting diversity expands access to top talent and practicing inclusion allows us to effectively invite top talent into our organizations. Taken together, employers will increase their production, drive innovation, increase their reputation, and retain their employees by providing an environment where employees can be their authentic self.

Why is this important? A recent report from McKinsey, a management consulting firm, titled “Delivering Through Diversity,” outlined that gender diversity in management positions actually increases profitability. In the firm’s previous analysis, companies in the top 25th percentile for gender diversity on their executive teams were 15% more likely to experience above-average profits. The latest data shows that likelihood has grown to 21%. Also, in a recent poll conducted by, found 57% of employees think their companies should be more diverse and 83% of millennials feel more engaged when they believe the organization fosters an inclusion culture. Additionally, they reported that 35% of companies plan to increase their budget for diversity and inclusion training and initiatives.

Please join SHRM of Greater Kansas City as they host a diverse panel of HR professionals and Diversity & Inclusion Directors to provide our members guidance and best practices on acquiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
