Three reasons you should join the color brave conversation about race.


Tragic and disturbing events over the past several months have put the topic of race front and center in the media. It's a topic many try to avoid in the workplace. However, if we want things to change, the first step is to talk about it.


Here are three reasons why:


  *   Race relations has been highlighted in the national media, putting a spotlight on the ongoing need for business, government and community leaders to advance the conversation.

  *   Mellody Hobson is widely known for her TED Talk, "Color blind or color brave?," in which she points out how being “color blind” impacts business performance, our communities and individuals.

  *   We’re having the dialogue as a first step to address the issues that clearly still exist in society and business today. “The first step towards action is awareness,” Mellody says.


Being color brave with "Mellody Hobson" is part of PwC Talks, a series designed to challenge conventional thinking, broaden our perspectives and inspire the best in all of us.


About the speaker:  

Chris Brassell is a strategic thinker and innovative leader with over 23 years of diversity/inclusion, human capital, and change/talent management experience.

He is currently a National Director in the PricewaterhouseCoopers' Office of Inclusion & Talent Management where he is responsible for driving national diversity and inclusion strategies and thought leadership. He is a nationally recognized subject matter expert on cultural transformation, race, work and fatherhood, multi-generational diversity and he is currently spearheading two progressive efforts at PwC –engaging men and, more specifically, white males in the diversity and inclusion discussion and engaging men for gender equity through PwC’s partnership with the UN’s HeForShe initiative.

Previously, Chris has held a number of HR leadership positions at PwC, including the U.S. Campus Sourcing Leader and US Experienced Recruiting He has published a number of thought leadership essays and papers and is often quoted in national publications. He is also a nationally-recognized professional speaker who frequently delivers dynamic and inspirational keynotes with client executives, at conferences and universities.

He attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is an active advisory board member of the Howard University Center for Accounting Education, a member the Society for Human Resource Management, the National Association of Black Accountants, Ascend, and the Association for Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting.

He, his wife Jayme, his fourteen year-old son Griffin, twelve year-old daughter Macy, and seven year-old daughter Murphy, live in Kansas City.
